While many are happy to see Gwendoline Christie reprising her role as Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there were some serious questions about the character’s return.
If you recall, at the conclusion of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Captain Phasma found herself threatened by Finn and Han to be thrown into the trash compactor of Starkiller Base. So how did she escape? Turns out she didn’t! In fact, she might not have even been thrown into the trash at all! As Christie pointed out on Good Morning America, we never actually see her character inside the trash compactor in The Force Awakens.
“If I could be precise about this, I don’t think we actually saw me inside the trash compactor,” Christie told Good Morning America. “That scene didn’t exist. What we saw was the threat of that. So aren’t you just on tender hooks now to think about why I’m here,” she added.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15th. Hopefully Christie’s character, Captain Phasma, lives up to the potential and hype that The Force Awakens’ marketing images initially alluded to.
