Splash Mountain is a staple attraction in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, located in Frontierland (since WDW doesn’t have a Critter Country). From the rousing chorus of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” (that somehow always gets stuck in your head) to that iconic 56 foot drop, the log flume is a fan-favorite. And today, it turns 25 years old.
While the original Splash Mountain opened at Disneyland on July 17, 1989 (it turns 28 today!), the Walt Disney World version opened exactly three years later on July 17, 1992.
That makes it 25 years old today!
To celebrate this milestone, we’ve dug up a video of the grand opening of Splash Mountain in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This is an excerpt from the 1992 grand opening celebration; but, there’s just one problem: there was no water! Can Brer Bear save the day?
The official Disney blog has also released a new wallpaper in celebration of Splash Mountain’s 25th anniversary. You can download the wallpaper here.
